What we owe you,
and what we ask back.
This site is a shop window, not a shop. Nothing is sold on it, the enquiry form starts a conversation rather than a contract, and the page you are reading is short because there isn't much to fence off.

The terms.
12 sectionsWritten to be read once and understood the first time. If a line here is doing something you didn't expect, tell us, because that would be our failure rather than yours.
Who you're dealing with
Black Lab Studios, Lda, registered in Portugal under NIF 519267532 and D-U-N-S 348561206, at Rua da Alegria, N27, 1 andar, 4000-041 Porto. It holds the contracts, the invoices and the work.
Using this site means these terms apply between you and that company. If you don't accept them, the honest answer is to close the tab. Everything else on this page assumes you carried on.
What this covers
blacklabstudios.com, and it stops at the edge of it.
Most of what we make lives somewhere else. Courses on Dometrain, the newsletter and the writing on guiferreira.me, the AI Powered .NET School, and ThatPrompt. Each one has its own terms, and those are the ones that apply once you get there.
Nothing is sold here
There's no checkout on this site. No prices, no cart, no card form.
The enquiry form is a request to start a conversation. It doesn't book a date, hold a place or oblige either of us to anything. A workshop becomes real when we've both agreed a written proposal covering the dates, the scope, the price and the terms of that engagement. That proposal governs the work, not this page. Where the two disagree, the proposal wins.
What we ask of you
Read the site, quote it, send it to a colleague, print it out. That is what it is for.
What we ask back is small. Don't try to break the site or get into parts of it that aren't public. Don't point automated traffic at it heavy enough to knock it over. Don't use the enquiry form to send us anything unlawful or to pitch us. And don't pass yourself off as us.
Who owns the words
The writing, the photography, the workshop outlines, the logo and the name are ours, or licensed to us, and copyright stays where it is.
Quote a paragraph with a link back and we're glad you did. Republishing a page, running our workshop outline as your own training, or reselling anything here is a different thing, and it needs our agreement in writing first.
The Black Lab Studios name and the symbol are ours. Nothing on this page licenses them.
Machines reading this site
We reserve the rights held under Article 4(3) of EU Directive 2019/790. In plain terms, this content is not available for text and data mining, or for training or fine-tuning models, without our written agreement.
That isn't a swipe at AI. We teach people to build with it. It is the same rule as the one above, applied to a reader that happens to be a machine.
The reservation is published in machine-readable form as well as in words, at /.well-known/tdmrep.json and in the response headers, so a crawler can read it without anyone having to open this page.
Teaching, not advice
Everything published here is what we've seen work on real teams, which is a different thing from advice about your codebase, your architecture or your business. We don't know your constraints.
You decide what to apply and what to leave. Nothing here is a promise of a result, and we can't carry the risk of what happens when you ship it.
Links out
This site links out constantly, because the index is mostly other places. We don't control those sites, we don't vet them continuously, and a link is not an endorsement of everything behind it.
The site as it is
We try to keep this accurate and online. We don't promise either. Pages change, workshops get retired, and dates move.
If something here matters to a decision you're about to make, ask us and we'll confirm it in writing. That is what the address at the bottom is for.
Where liability stops
This is a free website from a small company, so the limits are the ones you'd expect. We're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits or lost data, or for what follows from relying on a page.
What we don't limit, because the law doesn't allow it and we wouldn't want to, is liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be excluded. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights are untouched by anything here.
Law and courts
Portuguese law governs these terms and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction.
Business customers accept that as the exclusive forum. Consumers keep the right to bring a claim in the country where they live, and to rely on the protections of the law there.
When this changes
We update these when the site changes, and the date at the top moves with them. Carrying on using the site after that is how the new version starts applying to you.
